Running From God

Today we are beginning a sermon series based on the book of Jonah which I am calling “Running From the Heart of God.” The story of Jonah is familiar to so many people. Children love to hear of the prophet on the run who rides the ocean in the belly of a whale. Skeptics and scholars debate over the possibility of such a story being true, with many concluding that it’s a myth like the myriad of other legendary fables we tell.

However, Jesus didn’t think that Jonah was a mythical person. In fact, Jesus used the account of Jonah as a comparison when He predicted the three-day unfolding of His death, burial, and resurrection.
